Will ICE Pull Back from Minneapolis? Border Czar Homan’s Bold Offer Amid Deadly Chaos

ICE

What if federal agents vanished from Minneapolis streets— but only if city leaders play ball? That’s the stunning proposal from President Trump’s “border tsar” Tom Homan, who’s now calling the shots on immigration enforcement in the tense Minnesota city.

In his first press conference since stepping in, Homan revealed plans to make ICE and Border Patrol operations “safer, more efficient, and strictly by the book.” He’s pushing for “common-sense cooperation” from local officials, which could lead to a major drawdown in the 3,000 federal agents currently deployed for Trump’s mass deportation push.

This comes after a nightmare month: US citizen Renee Good, a 37-year-old mother of three, was shot dead by an immigration agent earlier this month (officials claimed she tried to run them over; the mayor called it reckless). Then, just days ago, fellow protester Alex Pretti—also 37, an ICU nurse and “true son of Minnesota”—was wrestled to the ground and fatally shot by border agents. New footage shows a prior clash, but his family insists nothing justifies the killing.

Trump sent Homan to replace criticized Border Patrol chief Greg Bovino (and alongside Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem) as the “main point of contact on the ground.” Homan vows to target only those with criminal records, avoid “agitators,” and crack down on any unprofessional behavior. But Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey and Governor Tim Walz are firing back, demanding ICE leave entirely and focusing on public safety over federal hunts.

A federal judge just banned detaining lawful refugees without green cards, ordering releases. As protests rage, Homan’s olive branch has everyone wondering: Cooperation or escalation?
